Note: The BlackBerry smartphone uses this IT policy rule only if the Password Required IT policy rule is set to True.

The BlackBerry Enterprise Server may disconnect the Server Routing Protocol (SRP) connection to the BlackBerry Infrastructure. This disconnection may be due to the following network conditions:

  • Packet loss
  • Latency
  • Other symptoms of poor network conditions

Immediately following the SRP disconnection, the BlackBerry Enterprise Server attempts to reconnect to the BlackBerry Infrastructure. However, if poor network conditions persist during this time, the SRP connection may be repeatedly disconnected and reconnected by the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.

Note: The BlackBerry Infrastructure is configured to disable SRP identification (IDs) that establish and exceed five connections within one minute.

According to Research in Motion (RIM), logic code has been added to the following versions of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, whereby the SRP connection, following a disconnection, is delayed to prevent the SRP IDs from being disabled:

  • BlackBerry Enterprise Server v4.1 SP4 for IBM Lotus Domino
  • BlackBerry Enterprise Server v4.1 SP2 for Microsoft Exchange
  • BlackBerry Enterprise Server v4.1 SP2 for Novell GroupWise

Note: The delay only functions correctly while the BlackBerry Enterprise Server services are running. Restarting the BlackBerry Enterprise Server may prevent the delay from functioning as expected.

For earlier versions of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, the following registry value can be used to add a delay between the time the BlackBerry Enterprise Server detects the SRP connection has been disconnected and when it attempts to reconnect to the BlackBerry Infrastructure.

The following Registry value can be used to add a delay between the time the BlackBerry Enterprise Server detects the SRP connection has been disconnected and when it attempts to reconnect to the BlackBerry Infrastructure.

  1. On the computer hosting the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, select Start > Run, type regedit, and click OK.
This process opens the Registry Editor.
  2. Go to one of the following locations, depending on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server software version:

For BlackBerry Enterprise Server v2.2, go to:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Server\

For BlackBerry Enterprise Server v3.6, go to

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Servers\<BlackBerry Enterprise Server_name>\

For BlackBerry Enterprise Server 4.0 and 4.1, go to

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise Server\Dispatcher\
  3. Determine if the InitialReconnectTimeout registry entry is present.

    * If the InitialReconnectTimeout entry exists, change the Data field to the number of seconds you want the SRP reconnection to be delayed.

    * If the InitialReconnectTimeout registry entry does not exist, create a registry entry with the following values:

 Name  Type  Data
InitialReconnectTimeout  DWORD  This value specifies the number of seconds the SRP reconnection is to be delayed. For example, a value of 15 delays reconnection for 15 seconds. For the Base, specify Decimal.

Note: To try and prevent the BlackBerry Enterprise Server from disabling its own SRP ID due to network conditions that cause the SRP to disconnect, this value should be set to a minimum of 15 seconds. This ensures that the BlackBerry Enterprise Server does not make five SRP connections within one minute, thereby preventing the SRP from being disabled.

The BlackBerry smartphone displays the following error message:

JVM 529: Corrupt file system. About to attempt recovery. Some data may be lost.

This error is caused by a corrupt file system on the BlackBerry smartphone.

In order to resolve this issue, perform an application load on the BlackBerry smartphone. See "How to cleanly install the BlackBerry Handheld OS" for more information.

As a workaround, you could choose Continue, the BlackBerry smartphone will attempt to repair itself.

Warning: Some data might be lost during this repair.

In order to confirm that an end user is receiving mail to their device, send them an email with <confirm> as the first word in the subject line. You can write anything else in the subject as well, as long as <confirm> is there first. For example,

<confirm> Test from BlackBerry Admin, OK to delete, no need to reply

As soon as the message hits the user's device, a confirmation receipt is sent right back to the sender, without any user intervention required.

This can be pretty handy when activating a user who you can't reach, to make sure they are getting mail to their device.

Sometimes you will get a confirmation back from yourself as well, so just be careful not to confuse that with one from your user.

Alternatively, you can send an email with <$Confirm,RemoveOnDelivery,SuppressSaveInSentItems> in the subject line, as follows:

<$Confirm,RemoveOnDelivery,SuppressSaveInSentItems>

With the additional commands the email is automatically deleted once received and the confirmation email is not saved in the sent messages.

In a nutshell, there are no traces of the test left in the users mail file.

The default password for the system administrator (sa) account of the Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine (MSDE) when installed by the BlackBerry Enterprise Server is password.

The network status indicator on the Home screen of the BlackBerry smartphone displays SOS. The SOS network status indicator means that you can only place emergency calls. Messages cannot be sent or received, and phone calls cannot be made or received.

After assigning a BlackBerry smartphone user to a new IT policy, the status remains at Received, rather than changing to Applied Successfully. Any new IT policy that is assigned to the BlackBerry smartphone user while in this state will not get sent to the BlackBerry smartphone.

This issue is a result of when the BlackBerry Enterprise Server is configured to use 3DES as the encryption algorithm, but the assigned IT policy has the Disable 3DES Transport Crypto rule set to true.

This combination of settings is unsupported, because this IT policy rule is forcing the BlackBerry smartphone to use AES, while the BlackBerry Enterprise Server only supports 3DES.

In order to resolve this issue, enable the 3DES and AES encryption algorithms on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.

For BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 4.1

  1. Open BlackBerry Manager.
  2. Select the appropriate BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
  3. Click the Server Configuration tab.
  4. Click Edit Properties.
  5. Click General.
  6. Under Security, change the encryption algorithm to 3DES and AES.
  7. Click Apply.
  8. Click OK.

For BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 5.0

  1. Login to the BlackBerry Administration Service.
  2. Expand BlackBerry Solution Topology.
  3. Expand BlackBerry Domain.
  4. Expand Component View.
  5. Expand BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
  6. Click the appropriate BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
  7. Click Edit Instance.
  8. Under Security Information, change the encryption algorithm to 3DES and AES.
  9. Click Save all.

The following software versions are affected with this issue:

  • BlackBerry Device Software version 4.2 to 4.2.1
  • BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 4.0 to 4.1 SP3 for Lotus Domino

The BlackBerry smartphone user cannot delete email messages. Also, a folder icon is displayed next to new email messages even though the email messages are in the Inbox and have not been filed. These email messages do not appear in the Messages list but are displayed when the Inbox folder is selected from the View Folder menu.

This is a result of the BlackBerry smartphone user's IBM Lotus Domino mail template was refreshed or replaced.

To resolve this issue, perform the following steps:

  1. Upgrade the BlackBerry Enterprise Server as follows:
    • For BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 4.0, install version 4.0 SP7
    • For BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 4.1, install version 4.1 SP3 HF1
  2. Instruct the BlackBerry smartphone user to complete the following steps:
    • On the BlackBerry smartphone, click Messages and then display the menu.
    • Click Options and select Email Reconciliation.
    • Set the On Conflicts field to Mailbox Wins.
    • Set the Wireless Reconcile field to Off.
    • Save the changes.
    • Wait a couple of minutes, return to the messages options, and set the Wireless Reconcile field to On.
    • Save the changes.

This allows the BlackBerry smartphone user to delete unopened email messages received after the mail template is refreshed or replaced.
